I thought some of you might find this eye watering; I did.

I took my KLR in today for it's first 1000km service (I'll do them myself after this). Whilst I was standing at the counter I looked up at the price list for various things. What caught my eye was the cost to mount a new tyre. It is an eye watering CA$130 (approx R1,450) PER tyre, excluding the tyre.

Now there's an incentive not to be lazy and do it yourself.

I'm guessing my 1000km service will probably be in the region of CA$350 (R3,800).

No wonder my friend in Portland bought his own tyre changer.

Yep. I've just looked at the prices. You can get a portable unit for $75.00.

Ja, that's why retiring back in SA is on the cards. Ridiculously expensive here.

For that same reason , I fit my own tyres at home .... it's good practice for the day when you need to fix a puncture in some remote part of the world
You can buy proper tyre levers for the price of fitting one at a tyre at a fitment shop .

I've got the levers but I'm also a lazy schmuck. I'll definitely be doing my own though.

Update: My first service cost $270.
