Thats bad. Seems to be a freak incedent. Suspect the bearing cage failed. May have been a weak bearing from factory This would have caused the shaft to run out of balance, wobble, and put slack on the chain. The bearing may have siezed at one point and the chain sheared the teeth of the gear. I doudt the doohickey caused this, but anything is possable. Thats wy I upgraded with EM's doo and tortion spring. Incedently, I replaced the main bearings in a Jonway 250 scrambler, at 55000km due to one having the same failure. Cage failure. The bearing fell apart once removed, but the bike was still running.
Riding and loving it.

The bike is just shy of 49800km. I lost about 3000km when the speedo cable was broken, so it is actually on about 53 000km or close to that. Doo replaced on 28 000km, the spring was broken off, I later found the missing part in the oil strainer.

I never skipped a service, always used good oil and new filters. And I never abused it, I don't have any footage for the wheelie thread!!

The bearing is apparently not damaged, just the sprocket that lost its teeth. Am going to replace the balancer chain to be on the safe side, and clean the strainer also. The magnetic sump plug caught a lot a metal pieces too.

So what was the problem in the end?

The top sprocket of the balancer shain lost all its teeth, as a result the balance weights could not work properly. Left and right covers removed to clean the oil strainer and to fish out all/most of the broken off pieces. The magnetic sump plug did a good job. Will change oil in 500km to see if more pieces are found on the sump plug.

Bike runs very nicely now and feels very smooth and the engine is very quiet. Will see if something else was damaged, for now I am holding thumbs

So I pull up this thread again.
Another one bites the dust.
Top left balancer shaft bearing failure.
This one is really badly damaged.
