Ek het geen idee nie, as die enjin eendag ontplof gee ek hom maar vir Groenie om te fix.

Ernstige not, baie manne hier gebruik Helix en ek dink hy het homself al bewys.

10/40 is the viscosity. The JASO spec refers specifically to additives for combined engine/Gearboxes..

The above specs are for Helix HX7 (A Car oil) which seems to comply with required Jaso spec??

Saying that I have just serviced my KLR and used Honda Oil, which I suspect is repackaged Activo. The gearbox is much slicker than when I used HX7??

Jaso stands for Japanese Automobile Association.
Sorry I don't know the exact abbreviation.
Jaso SG is a Car oil!
Jaso MA is for motorcycles with combined engine/gearbox clutch systems.
Shell Helix 5,7 or whatever is not for bikes.
Castrol Actevo
or you also get Puntoline, but more expensive.

But its your bikes so put in whatever you please. :P

There are two reasons why you want to use a bike oil and not a car engine oil in your KLR...
1) On a bike, the clutch is immersed in the engine oil. You will notice that most bike oils state somewhere on the bottle, "Anti-clutch slippage". Car oils do not have this feature and tend to lubricate everything including the clutch friction surfaces. You want to lubricate the metal to metal contact points but ideally you want the clutch to grip properly. It takes a specialised oil to accomplish this.
2) Bike gears are also immersed on the engine oil and these tend to have some components comprising some yellow metals, which get damaged by car engine oils. On a car, the gearbox is separate and has dedicated gearbox oil, which has the special additives to protect the yellow metal components.
Yes, car oils are cheaper...
but the very reason why you pay a bit more for bike oils is that they have a tough job to accomplish (engine, gears and wet-clutch) and therefore need to be more specialised.
Would you put olive-oil in your car engine?
No? Then why put car engine oil in your bike?
