Peter, yes it is on the inside.

I decided to drip on at the front sprocket, wasn't sure whether the front or rear is the best. My hope is that the oil stays a bit longer from the front before excess is flung off.....I prefer flung off, reduce the build up of lube and dust/sand mixture, hence the use of oil rather than chain wax.
Was not sure what the wind drafts at the rear will do to the drip, whether it drip successful or just partially.....

I have a bit of gear oil in the garage, will use that for now, however, I am curious to see the price of the chainsaw oil, although I know it is not often available as gear oil, on long trips when needed.

Thank you guys for all the inputs, please don't stop, I never say no to sound advice.

I don't mind manual clean and lubing. It isn't such a big deal. These days o-ring and x-ring chains don't require a constant flow of lube.

I prefer to use Du Pont Teflon Chain Saver but at $12 a can it gets pricey. It goes on wet and then dries, so it doesn't fling everywhere. The back rim area remains clean.

I use WD-40 only to clean and then I apply the Teflon spray afterwards. At service time I deep clean the chain, using a soft brush, and then spray.

So far the chain and sprockets are still good (6000km).

My Chain and sprockets lasted about 15 000 km , including all my wheelies and riding it , like I stole it... okay not all the time though , cos most times I get 400 + km on a tank of fuel !!
As with everything in life , just service it regularly .... I service my bike every +-1000km and lube the chain same time .
