Good morning all.

Who has had issues with their KACR system
From the various forums online it seems to be the cause of a loud ticking noise on the right front side of the head.

Mine was making a really load noise, so decided to open up the top cover and have a look.
What i found, is that it has failed completely, the sliding pieces that are supposed to open slightly have opened up completely and have been hitting against the tappet cover. This will explain why i found aluminium in the oil strainer.

Going to remove it, has anyone else had this issue, and has anyone removed theirs yet?

Yes you can remove it, but that puts a lot more strain on the starter gears and starter clutch.
I've had to replace starter clutches and torque limiters together with new exhaust camshafts.
There should be a small spring on the decompression release, is that still there?

Also, why would it be hitting the top of the cover?

The spring does not limit total travel of the KACR parts. Have you checked the cam journals for wear? Search my post "Top End Noise" for some insights.

HI

I cant get the photo to post, but you can clearly see where it has been touching the top of the tappet cover.

I am going to remove the cam tonight and check condition of the cam and journals.

Thanks

Only if you remove the whole KACR by pressing it out. If you cut it, part of it stays in the cam.
