Gegroet
My fiets het sopas 24000 km gedoen.
Nou my vrae:

Caveat- my advice may be dangerous!!!

Difficult cold starting is a sign that the valves needs to be checked. I also think that the checking of the valves should be done by a professional, it is very easy to strip the threads of the valve cover resulting in a lot more issues.

My bike is on 94k km and the valves have only been checked once, cold starting is still very easy so I trust that all is still ok.

A clean airlifted apparently helps to limit wear on the valves.

Somebody like capeklr and Groenie will give you the right answer.

Cheers,

Hi,
checking the valve clearances is in theory a simple job, but you do need a small
torque wrench.
The valve cover bolts strip very easily. They are only torqued to 7.8N/m
If adjustment is needed then the cams have to come out to be able to remove the shims
and replace with other sizes.
That means resetting the chain tensioner and the valve timing.
A clean and the correct air filter will help in reducing wear on the valves.
Aftermarket air filters very often do not filter all the dirt out.

As stated, if your bike does not have trouble starting (mine fires at the first turn of the engine) then you can leave the valves be.

It is an extensive job for a beginner (it requires removing quite a lot of merchandise and takes some time), but all-in-all very simple.

CapeKLR's advice regarding the torque wrench is golden. DO NOT try to do this without one, you will strip those cover bolts!

So gepraat van airfilter.
Hoor graag wat is julle take daarop.
Groete

Gebruik air filter olie in 'n spuitkannetjie.
