Bore and piston skirts show clear signs of scratching, but not overly serious.







Bike was a heavy oil drinker in spite of the 0.5 oversize that was performed in its past life (looking at the stamping on the piston) which is somewhat strange as it could not have been that long ago.

No damage to the crank, connecting rod and big end.

Also opened up the sides to check for signs of sand poisoning - could not find anything . Mesh filter also clean. Dont think it necessary to open up the oil pump. Maybe just rinse the bottom out with diesel to be sure?








Whilst I was in there I stripped the clutch - friction place near new, but spring free length way below spec which is propabaly what causes the hard clutch pull - something which I hate. Will order new springs and should be good to go again.

Whilst I am in there I will also replace the waterpump mechanical seal

Most guys on here probably has seen, or have themselves done, this type of teardown many times before, but i thought i will share a few pics in any event - perhaps as testimony to the fact that the KLR is a pretty tough bike provided it is not oil starved.
