Howdy folks

I am the proud owner of a 2008 KLR with 48K km on the clock which I purchased last month. She is my daily and by far the largest bike I have owned (I had a Suzuki DF200 many moons ago in matric, and a DT175 before that  )

I live in the small town of Hluhluwe, KZN, where I have recently joined the local game capture operator as helicopter pilot. (old joke; how do you know someone is a pilot? He will tell you! )

I enjoy the vast knowledge that is shared on this forum, and hope to meet some of you in the future. If anyone is traveling through the Hluhluwe area, feel free to look me up, I will gladly assist where I can. Around here we say that 'this is Zululand, not Disneyland!', meaning that we look after each other.

Catch you in the forum!

Welcome and many safe miles. That actually looks like a 2009 bike.

Interesting, I ran the VIN through an online decoder and it does indeed come back as an '09 model. The registration paperwork and the data plate on the fork says '08...

Abre, how did you spot the difference? My Google-fu is not strong today.

Welcome!

The colour schemes are mostly year specific. Based on the fairing colour, sticker design and frame colour you can deduce the year model

Google "KLR timeline". I think a guy called wattman in the USA compiled it. It gives the differences between the different years. The colours on the front panels is for 2009 bikes. It may be 2009 panels on a 2008 bike. If the frame is black then it is not a 2008 bike, unless the frame was sprayed black. The year and month of manufacture is on the steering stem. If the bike is well looked after and in good condition then the year of bike is really trivial.

Welcome to the Clan and hope you have many a great adventures on your bile. You guys down there are spoilt when it comes to gravel roads for adventure riding.

Couple of KLR dudes in the Midlands and I know Andy organises regular rides down there
