There I was summoning all my formidable driving skills to just keep my car on the icy road in snowy conditions, with the traction control repeatedly telling me something I already knew .... and then there's this guy. A KLR650 nogal. I've got pictures, but too much hassle to resize. My guess is he's travelling down from Alaska. He's got big balls, that's for sure.

Pannas, it was -8C at the time. That's not too bad, but his wind chill would have made it cold. Having said that; there is no magic to dressing warm. I ski in -20C sometimes. The trick is to dress in layers. I use a merino wool base layer, followed by a fleece lined neoprene mid layer, followed by a down layer, followed by an insulated and wind proof jacket. Layering is far more effective than wearing a bulky jacket. If you get hot you remove layers. Try it next time.

Ryderod, I zoomed into the pictures. I can't make out the tyres but they don't look like anything special. Road tyres to be specific.

I had a Gortex Fishing Jacket, get these at the Bass Pro Shops.
they are windproof at 100km/h...

not a thick bulky jacket at all, but pricey
